"The new [State Department] policy recognizes that people's medical needs vary, and that treatment options must be decided by health care professionals on an individual basis."

This resource from the National Center for Transgender Equality provides information about when you need a passport and addresses specific concerns for transgender people, including how to change your name and gender information on your passport, how to apply for a new passport, and more. The resource is in response to the State Department’s June 2010 policy to issue new passports that reflect a person’s current gender when either a previous passport or other personal documentation presented by an applicant reflects a different gender.
