Training day: National Resource Center teaches LGBT cultural competence

When Troy Johnson, the NHOA’s director of services and programs, realized the issues involved in serving LGBT older adults were not being addressed with any regularity, he knew that his agency’s staff and volunteers needed LGBT cultural competency training.
This article describes the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging’s cultural competency training using a case study in culture shifts from Lexington, Kentucky. The article also briefly discusses what “cultural competence” may mean to different agencies.
