Family Violence and Prevention Services Act 30th Anniversary Video Health & Whole Communities
October 2015 | The FVPSA moving picture infographic is a product of the Domestic Violence Resource Network (DVRN), with special recognition of the National Domestic Violence Hotline and National Resource Center on Domestic Violence for their creativity and hard work.
In October 1984, Congress passed the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA). This was the first time that federal resources were dedicated specifically to expand and support domestic violence shelters, services, and programs – and most importantly, domestic violence victims and survivors. For the past 30 years, FVPSA has supported community--driven solutions to domestic violence, domestic and dating violence prevention education, and a network of programs and services to respond to domestic violence across the country, territories and tribal communities.
For over 30 years, the Family Violence and Prevention Services Act (FVPSA) has supported community-driven solutions to domestic violence, domestic and dating violence prevention education, and a network of programs and services to respond to domestic violence across the country, territories and tribal communities.
This moving infographic was developed to honor the unique role and contributions that FVPSA, and other federal funding programs, plays in our country’s response to domestic violence. FVPSA may be lesser known than the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) but provides core funding for more than 1,600 domestic violence shelters and 1,100 non-residential service sites, providing both a safe haven and an array of supportive services to intervene in and prevent abuse.
